"Easing" Back Into School
Many homeschoolers start their school year in August, so I know that some of you have already started! For those of you who have not, I would like to make a suggestion that someone gave me when I had only been homeschooling a few years: start out slowly, or "ease into" your new school year! The basic idea is to start out with one or two subjects, then after a few days or even a week add another one or two until you are eventually doing all your subjects! This has worked really well for our family, and it helps us not get "burned out" before we even hit Thanksgiving! I know that for some of you, jumping right back into your school year with both feet works fine, especially if you did not take the whole summer off, but this suggestion is for those of us who need a little time to adjust to a more rigid schedule again! This also gives me the opportunity to "tweak" my schedule if it seems to need changing. Most schools take at least a few weeks to have their students doing all their subjects, plus they usually have to spend more time reviewing than we homeschoolers do, so even if we take some time to have a full schedule, we will probably still be ahead of the game! So take a deep breath, do some preparations, and "ease into" your new school year!

Welcome to the blog world, Julie! I read your 1st 4 posts and they were very encouraging. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe do start our year in August, but we only do 4 days a week and swim at my mom's on Fridays. That's our way of "easing in". We try and start right off the bat with our new schedule and all of our subjects. The kids are usually itchin' to get going.
I look forward to reading your future posts . . . of course as my time allows (smile). ~Jan
Congrats on the blog, Julie. We've been easing back into school for a couple of weeks now, adding one subject a week. It keeps the oldest from going on strike before we've even really begun. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Julie!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat blog site! Awesome encouragement for homeschooling families! Homeschooling is always a privledge and joy to be able to get to do! Loving our children and teaching them right from our homes about our faith in Christ and having fellowship often with our brothers and sisters in Christ! There's no greater Joy! My prayer is that we stay close to Christ as we school our children and no matter how we get the job going or continuing that we keep focused upon whom we are serving and grow greater in having our trust in Him as we serve our families and watch them grow and become people of God who oneday serve their own families the way Christ has shown us.
Blessings to you and your precious family!
Looking forward to more homeschooling tips ahead in your blog!
Love in Him,
